Limited Pet Contract

Sleepy Hollow Chesapeake’s Contract

Pet Contract

I stand behind the puppies that I have bred.  I evaluated, and all testing was done to ensure that you would welcome a new family member who would be with you for years to come.

Your puppy has received proper vaccinations and deworming to the date transfer to the new owner. He or she has been examined for health by our veterinarian. The purchaser’s veterinarian must examine the pup within 3 business days. Any claim on the health guarantee must be placed within the 3 business days. If I do not hear from you, I will assume the puppy is in good health and you are satisfied.

As your pup gets older Bloat is serious! Please keep your pup kenneled from 1-2 hours after eating. Many dogs have died from Bloat. Always keep on hand a bloat kit. It could save their  life.  Please make sure the pup has three sets of shots before taking them out to public areas for them to walk in. Parvo and other diseases are real and could cause death in your pups. Brushing their teeth at a young of age is a good thing.

Ticks can cause all sorts of health problems. Ticks can transmit several dangerous illnesses to dogs, including Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Rickettsial diseases, Canine Babesiosis, Protozoal Diseases, Tularmia and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. These diseases can cause a range of symptoms, from mild lethargy and fever to more severe issues like joint pain, bleeding disorders, eye issues even blindness, kidney damage and heart disease, including death. I highly recommend you getting your pup on the Pro Heart shot for heart worms. Lyme shot for lyme disease.  Our dogs have been on it since they are six months old. In order for the warranty you Must get your dogs blood drawn after having the shot for 6 months.

These illnesses impact thousands of dogs throughout North America every year and are capable of producing some severe symptoms even blindness. In some cases, tick-borne diseases can even be life-threatening or fatal.

Not only that, multiple organisms can be transmitted to your dog through a single bite of an infected tick, allowing different organisms to work together to release toxins and trigger your pet’s immune system. These organisms can invade your dog’s cells and hijack their immune system often leading to recurring or chronic infections. While Lone Star ticks can transmit diseases that may lead to inflammation and damage within the eye, which cause cataracts or blindness in dogs, potentially impacting vision.

I highly recommend health insurance on the pup.  I am always here for you. Day or night. My responsibilities do not end until they is old and passes away.

You have my cell phone number.

Puppies may be stressed by changes in the environment. Minor problems such as diarrhea, Coccidiosis, wormy stools, etc. are common and must be treated. These conditions are the responsibility of the purchaser and should be checked by a veterinarian. This also includes Parvo,  or Giardia. Minor health problems that can be cured by medication or surgery are not covered by any guarantee. I am not responsible for anything that might happen to the puppy/dog after it leaves my property.

Your puppy will be registered after you take possession. I will pay all registration fees up front. Paperwork will be in the new owner’s name, and the registration certificate will be mailed to the new owner by the AKC. New owners will be able to choose the name of their puppy as long as the name begins with Sleepy Hollow’s. You cannot change your dog’s registered name. Your dog has been microchipped and entered into AKC reunite, a registry to help find lost dogs. My information has also been listed on the microchip as a secondary contact which is useful should you move and forget to update the information. Your puppy will have 30 days of AKC health insurance.

Your puppy is sold on a limited basis.

Your puppy cannot be rehomed or sold  The pup is not to be given away to a family member outside of your spouse. The puppy if you can no longer have or take care of comes back to me. I have the right of first refusal.

BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS  _____

Most behavioral problems such as biting occur due to lack of socialization and proper training of the dog from the time it was a puppy. Often an owner has a life experience which may prevent them from spending the amount of time that they should with the dog during the critical ages of behavioral development (6-12 months). People sometimes engage “dog behaviorists” or trainers who lack understanding of the breed and actually end up creating additional problems for the dog. Contact me for help.
